Dougie Lee Poynter was born in the hospital on 30 november 1987 in Essex, England. He lived with his mum Sam, father Gary and his little sister Jazzie at home. Two week before he planned to move out for McFly his father abandoned his family. There isn’t much information about Dougie’s father and Dougie doesn’t like talking about it. Once he has spoken about his father in a interview from the daily Mirror but after that he hasn’t spoken about his father anymore.

‘I was 15,’ says Poynter, from Corringham, Essex. ‘I’d just found out I’d got in the band. It was such a big deal for me, moving into London in this house with these other guys. The week before I left, my dad left. There was a note on the kitchen table just saying he’d had enough. I can’t really explain how I felt. I thought he was a coward and he’d cheated us. I felt like my childhood had just gone and I was in complete shock.
‘The best thing for me was getting away. Partly because I needed to, and partly because I was the only man in the house with a mum and a younger sister. It was my duty to get myself into a position where I could look after them. As for my dad, I’ve never seen him since. The big thing for me is that it made me want to be a better man. I was 15 then, just a kid. The guys in my band became my male role models. Harry taught me to shave, Tom took me down and opened my first bank account with me, showed me how to use a cashpoint card. They’ll always be the ones who I’ll turn to.’

Dougie attent the school, Gable Hall School Arts College. The saw Dougie as a quiet, shy boy and not really the popular guy on school. Dougie himself says he was a total loser. The time he spent on school there he joined a band called Ataiz.
They performed at school and other small venue’s. They also sung ‘Silence is a scary sound’. You can find this video on youtube, just search for Ataiz - Silence is a scary sound. On the video you can see Dougie at the age of 14, singing together with his band. Later on he sung this song together with McFly.

When he was at the age of 15 he heard the news that he was in the band McFly. He was the youngest boy who did an audition but he was the best bassplayer with the best skills! Dougie says that he thought it didn’t went well because he was really nervous and he even had the vomit! Later on he told us that if he wasn’t choosed to play in McFly he wouldn’t attent more auditions. 

The years went by and Dougie changed a lot. He still is very quiet and shy. He was still a teenager and he lived with 3 other guys, Danny, Tom and Harry. They really helped out Dougie for many times. Harry helped him to learn how to shave, Tom came along when Dougie opened his first bank account and teached him how to use everything.
‘The guys in my band became my male role models. They’ll always be the ones who I’ll turn to.’

In the course of years Dougie has been growing to the youngest hottest celebrity of Britain. He won the Virgin Award for  ‘Most Fanciable Male.’ You can also tell Dougie has more confidence now. He talks more in public and in interviews. The first few years of McFly he was the shy boy who didn’t say much but if he said something it was something filthy or rude but behind the camera he was a great boy where you can have great fun with.
